The Icelandic Educational Awards 2020

In 2020 I received the Icelandic Educational Awards at the presidential residence for outstanding support to the Icelandic education through my work with the Utís conference and community.

This was the first time since 2011 that the awards have been presented since.

Teacher of the year 2018

Ingvi was named one of the teachers of the year in Iceland in 2018, by the University of Iceland and ‘Hafðu áhrif!’. Ingvi’s awards said that his work had inspired the educational community both in Iceland and worldwide.

The award was part of an initiative by the University of Iceland for the public to nominate exceptional teachers. The purpose was to highlight the important work of educators and how much of an impact teachers can have on individuals and communities as a whole.

Exceptional young Icelander

Ingvi was named in the Top 10 as Exceptional Young Icelander of the Year 2022 by JCI Iceland.

One of 100 global "Changemakers in Education" by the Finnish site HundrED

In 2018, Ingvi was named one of 100 global "Changemakers in Education" by the Finnish site HundrED and also interviewed by HundrED.

Fulbright Grantee

In 2019, Ingvi was awarded a Fulbright grant to pursue his studies at Stanford University.

In 2019, Ingvi was awarded the American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) grant to pursue his studies at Stanford University.

Apple Distinguished Educator

Apple welcomed Ingvi Ómarsson to the ADE Class of 2017, as the first Icelandic educator to be inducted into this select group of truly innovative educators.

The Apple Distinguished Educator (ADE) Program began in 1994, when Apple recognized K-12 and higher education pioneers who are using a variety of Apple products to transform teaching and learning in powerful ways. It is a community of visionary educators and innovative leaders who are doing amazing things with Apple technology in and out of the classroom.

Ingvi made it to the finals of the Apple ‘BattleMania’ for showcasing his skills using technology on the fly.

Google for Education Champions

Google Innovator

In 2017, Google recognized Ingvi’s work by inducting him into the Google for Education Innovator Program. He is the first Icelandic educator to be a part of this community of educators who lead progress towards the future of education.

In 2023, the Google for Education Champions Program was introduced and Ingvi was in the first group of educators invited to be a part of it.

He was even featured on Google’s official launch video (at 1:45)
